How to play.
Table tennis bats, one bouncy ball, a net with two angled flaps either end. Hit it onto the other side, any number of bounces, off anything that's in play. First to 16 wins. The rest is detail, but the detail matters once someone tries to cheat.
Tabel scorecard
first to 16 pointsHit the ball onto the table on the other side of the net. It can bounce anywhere, any number of times.
There are no limits on when or where you hit it, except you can't:
- use your body
- volley
- hit it twice, unless it's bounced back off the net
- hit it while it's static or rolling
- touch a surface with your bat to resurrect an almost-stopped ball
You lose the point if:
- you miss the other side of the table
- the ball hits you after landing on your side
- you hit your opponent before the ball lands on their side
- you breach any of the limits above
Win the point, and it's your serve next.
Conventional table tennis serve: one bounce on your side, then over the net, no flaps before it lands.
Playing for serve: a rally starting with a ‘thrown serve’ that bounces on both sides.
Double the body count, quadruple the chaos. Teams get up to three touches before the ball has to cross the net, alternating between partners. It doesn't matter who goes first, but you can't hit it twice in a row. A touch off the net back to your own side still counts; we're leaning toward capping that at once per rally before it gets too chaotic to referee. Not locked in yet.
